was spotted wearing a knee brace while watching .
The 27-year-old didn't travel to the Santiago Bernabeu and instead, viewed from the comfort of his own sofa at home. He was surrounded by his family and friends as the Gunners beat Real Madrid 2-1 on the night and 5-1 on aggregate to seal their place in the semi-final.
But while eyes were on Arsenal's success on the pitch, some supporters noticed that Gabriel was wearing a knee brace - two weeks on after suffering a hamstring injury.
Luiz Henrique Severo posted several videos from Gabriel's house and it appeared to show his right knee in a brace and supported with his leg lifted by a cushion.
The Brazilian sustained the issue during Arsenal's 2-1 win over Fulham on Tuesday, April 1 and was forced to undergo surgery to fix the issue. Gabriel's wife posted a photo on social media last weekend after Gabriel went under the knife, with the defender in a hospital gown and looking positive.
Now back at home, Gabriel is recovering from the hamstring surgery but Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta fears that the former Lille defender could miss the start of next season.
Arteta stated: "It's been a season where we’ve had to adapt constantly, We’ve gone through a lot of things. We’ve lost probably our best defender [Gabriel] for four months but Jakub [Kiwior] comes in and delivers the performances that he’s been delivering."
Four months would cast doubt on Gabriel's availability for the start of next season and that would be a major blow despite Kiwior's form since coming back into the starting XI.
Kiwior produced another stellar performance as he helped Arsenal over the line and reach the Champions League semi-final for the first time in 16 years.
Leading 3-0 from the first leg at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners made a bright start at the Bernabeu and should have gone in front on the night but Bukayo Saka missed an early penalty. However, the England international made amends to put Arsenal 1-0 ahead midway through the second half.
Although Vinicius Jr levelled for Real Madrid, Gabriel Martinelli scored in stoppage-time to put the icing on the cake on a 5-1 aggregate win.
Reacting to his side's performance in his post-match press conference, Arteta admitted he doesn't think he has felt prouder of his players. "Probably not," the Spaniard replied.
"Not only because we're in the semi-final for the third time in our history now, but also because of the way we did it. Not only because of the way we played, but also because of the circumstances, the amount of injuries we had. That shows the character of this team, of this club, and it’s a night to be very proud of."
