The much-anticipated IPL 2025 match between (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) was brought to a standstill as rain arrived at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on the night of May 6.
After MI posted a competitive total of 155/8, led by Will Jacks’ 53 off 35 balls and Suryakumar Yadav’s 35 off 24, Gujarat Titans started their chase with caution. Despite the early loss of Sai Sudharsan for 5 to Trent Boult, GT recovered steadily. At the end of 14 overs, GT stood at 107/2, with Shubman Gill and Sherfane Rutherford holding fort.

Just as the Titans appeared to be cruising, light rain turned into a steady downpour, forcing the umpires to halt play. The Wankhede ground staff reacted swiftly, rushing covers onto the pitch and protecting the outfield, as players headed back to their dugouts.
The situation grew tense as Gujarat Titans were 8 runs ahead of the DLS par score at the time of stoppage. With more rain forecast and conditions being closely monitored, there’s a growing possibility that the match result could be decided by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method if play cannot resume.
