Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) carrying devotees rammed into a stationary truck on Bypass Road, resulting in the death of one youth and injuries to 14 others.

The incident occurred near Bicholi Mardana Bridge around 4 am, when the group was returning to Khargone from Sehore after attending Pradeep Mishra’s Kanwar Yatra.

The MUV crashed into a parked truck after its tyres burst. A youth seated in the front seat died on the spot, while the others are undergoing treatment at MY Hospital.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Mantu Verma (24), a resident of Indira Nagar, Khargone.

Eyewitness Akash, who was sitting in the vehicle, said that the group of 15, including the driver, was returning from the Kanwar Yatra. Early in the morning, the truck was parked on the roadside due to a tyre burst. In an attempt to avoid a collision with a vehicle that was behind the MUV, driver Sandeep swerved the steering, causing the MUV to crash into the truck from the co-pilot side.

Mantu, who was seated in the front on the co-pilot seat, sustained severe head injuries. All the injured, including Mantu, were rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The police have seized the truck. Mantu was the only son of his parents and a first-year college student. He also used to help his father with their vegetable business.

All devotees were from same locality in Khargone

Akash added that all the 14 passengers belonged to the same neighborhood in Khargone. They had rented the MUV on Tuesday to attend the Kanwar Yatra in Sehore. The group left Sehore for Khargone around 9 pm on Wednesday. Most of the passengers were asleep at the time of the accident.

MUV trapped between truck and dumper

Akash, who was sitting behind the driver, said that Mantu and Gaurav were seated in the front along with the driver, while the others were asleep in the back. Their vehicle was caught between a stationary truck in front and a cement mixer dumper coming from behind. Fearing a collision from the rear, the driver swerved, but the MUV ended up crashing into the parked truck from the co-pilot side.

Akash said that had the driver not turned the steering in time, the MUV could have been crushed between the truck and the dumper, potentially causing even more serious injuries. Gaurav, who was seated beside Mantu, also suffered a severe head injury and remains in critical condition.
