Moment woman smashes neighbour over the head with SPADE as bitter row explodes

A woman smashed her neighbour over the head with a spade in a horrific attack that was caught on camera - and resulted in a prisonsentence more than two years later.

Catherine Lloyd, 44, attacked her neighbour with the spade after a long-running dispute. The incident occurred outside the back of the man's property in George Street, in Woodston, Peterborough, at about 9:30pm on May 14, 2023.

The neighbours had been locked in a dispute over several issues for several years before Lloyd attacked the man. The man, who is in his twenties, suffered a cut to his head and needed hospital treatment. It comes after a man dies after wife runs him over in car park in 'tragic accident'.

Footage of the attack, taken from a camera recording above the property, showed the man standing outside his property. But just seconds later, Lloyd could be seen racing toward him with the shovel and slamming it down over his head.

The man reacted suddenly and lunged for Lloyd before he appeared to grab her and begin tackling her. Footage released by police cut out shortly afterward. The video was shared on the

Cambridgeshire Police said that the neighbours had been in a dispute for about three years, but did not explain what they were arguing about.

Lloyd, of no known address, admitted grievous bodily harm without intent. She was jailed for 10 months at Peterborough Crown Court on July 31.

DC Lloyd Davis said: "Catherine Lloyd’s behaviour in this case was completely unacceptable. Irrespective of any ongoing dispute, violence like this is not the answer. I’m pleased the victim can now move on.”

It comes a month after a 69-year-old woman wasjailed for stabbing her neighbour twice during a long-running dispute. Janette Price had been arguing with the couple who lived next door to her in Redcar when she stabbed the woman in the abdomen and hand.

The victim told the court: "I am a nervous wreck. I've been having nightmares about the stabbing happening again. I've been diagnosed with anxiety and PTSD. I can't be left on my own. This is affecting my relationship."

Price pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and the possession of a bladed article and she was sentenced to 32 months in prison. She is to serve half of the sentence in custody and the time she has spent on remand will also be taken off, before she is released on licence.

Her defence barrister, Victoria Lamballe, told the court that the was "considerable animosity between the neighbours". She added that Price had shown "genuine remorse" for what she did "and is at a loss to explain how she is capable of such violence".
