A friend of Shannon Matthews' mum Karen has revealed that she would visit her in prison during her eight year sentence for the kidnapping of her daughter.
Speaking about the visits, Karen's friend Julie Bushby said that Karen would sometimes be "black and blue" when she visited her in jail. "I used to go visit her at prison. I asked her the same questions. There were time I went that she was black and blue but she walked into that many doors," she said.
"It was a different story each time I went. She just tells me she was scared of family." Matthews was released from prison in April 2012 after serving half her sentence.
