Air India plane carrying MPs makes emergency landing, Venugopal said - we had a narrow escape

An Air India spokesperson said the plane landed safely in Chennai, where the plane will be inspected. After landing, MP Venugopal described the incident as a 'narrow escape from a major accident'.

An Air India flight coming from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi was diverted to Chennai on Sunday evening due to a technical problem. According to information available on flight tracking website Flightradar24, flight number AI2455 operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft was in the air for more than two hours.

The crew of AI 2455, flying from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi on August 10, diverted the aircraft to Chennai as a precautionary measure due to suspected technical fault and bad weather en route, the airline said in a statement.

5 MPs were on board the plane

Let us tell you that there were many passengers and crew members on board the plane, including five MPs. Air India said that the plane landed safely in Chennai. Flight number AI 2455, which took off from Thiruvananthapuram, had four MPs from Kerala - Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, UDF Convenor Adoor Prakash, senior Congress leaders Kodikunnil Suresh and K. Radhakrishnan, along with Tamil Nadu MP Robert Bruce.

Narrowly escape a major accident

After landing, Venugopal described the incident as a 'narrow escape from a major accident'. He claimed that the plane had a radar problem, due to which an emergency landing had to be made. We were in the air for about an hour and 10 minutes before landing. He said that I have already informed the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) about this matter.

Air India gave clarification

An Air India spokesperson said the plane landed safely in Chennai, where the necessary checks will be carried out. He said alternative arrangements are being made to get the passengers to their destination as soon as possible and regretted the inconvenience caused. Details about the number of passengers are not available. According to information from Flightradar24, the plane took off from Thiruvananthapuram after 8 pm and reached Chennai at around 10.35 pm.
