Following the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated. In the latest developments, on the night of May 2-3, 2025, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC). The firing targeted Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, using small arms. The Indian Army quickly retaliated, giving a strong response to the attack. This marks the ninth consecutive night of firing by Pakistan along the LoC.
Civilians Take Precautionary MeasuresIn anticipation of further escalations, civilians living near the LoC and International Border (IB) are actively preparing for potential confrontations. Many have started clearing their community and private bunkers, designed to offer shelter during cross-border violence. The Indian government had approved the creation of 14,460 bunkers back in 2017, with over 8,600 of them now completed across regions like Samba, Kathua, Jammu, Poonch, and Rajouri. These efforts are continuing despite ongoing tensions, as areas like Kathua, Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch are still working through their crop harvesting.
Previous Ceasefire ViolationsThis incident follows a series of ceasefire violations, including another round of firing on May 1-2, when Pakistani soldiers targeted five districts along the LoC, marking the eighth consecutive night of such exchanges. In each case, the Indian Army has responded swiftly and decisively, preventing any significant damage.
The recent uptick in hostilities comes after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which has intensified the already tense situation between the two nations.
Ongoing Tensions at the LoCA defense spokesperson from Jammu confirmed, “On the night of May 1-2, Pakistani military posts fired upon Indian positions in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Naushera, and Akhnoor sectors. The Indian Army retaliated effectively.”
These ongoing violations and the growing military tensions underscore the fragile state of relations between India and Pakistan, especially in the wake of the recent attacks.
