The UK is bracing for days of snow in mere weeks as winter approaches and temperatures plummet. New maps by forecaster WXCHARTS, which uses MetDesk data, forecast snow to hit Scotland on October 23 and reach England on October 24. In just two weeks, dustings could begin to settle across areas in the south of Scotland, near the border with England, at up to 1cm/hr.
The following day, the snow will move further south, reaching Manchester, Burnley, and areas of North Wales. These areas are all expected to see dustings of between 0.3cm/hr and 1cm/hr. In Scotland, large parts of the country are expected to see snow depths of around 1cm, particularly in Inverness and the Highlands.
In many other parts of the country, such as Birmingham, Liverpool, and Hull, rain is expected to fall at rates of around 0.5mm/hr.
The average temperature in the UK during October typically ranges from a high of around 13C to a low of about 6C.
For London, specifically, October average temperatures are around 11C, with highs of approximately 14C and lows near 8C.
Separately, the MetOffice's long-range forecast from October 22 to November 5 warns of increasingly unsettled conditions across the country, bringing rain and strong winds.

It reads: "The final third of October will likely see a transition to more unsettled conditions across the UK, with high pressure slipping away, though the timing and manner of this is low confidence.
"Whether this takes the form of successive weather systems moving in from the Atlantic or a rather slower-evolving weather pattern remains to be seen.
"There is a greater chance of most if not all places seeing spells of rain or showers and possibly strong winds later in the month, and continuing into the start of November. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall."
