Scott McTominay revealed that he was dazzled by the stadium lights moments before demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the Napoli project.

The Scotland midfielder struck the vital second goal in his team's thrilling 3-1 triumph over Serie A contenders Inter Milan on Saturday evening, as he answered in the most emphatic manner to explosive speculation regarding his future.

McTominay is worshipped in Naples, but a Saturday report suggested the 28-year-old indicated a Premier League comeback could be imminent due to his celebrity status in his new home and the accompanying pressures.

A source in The Sun revealed: "Scott loves elements of Italian life and had a wonderful first season. But the passion of the fans can be a blessing but also make things difficult. He is treated as a god over there but it means he finds it difficult to do simple things when he's not training. The attention can be suffocating."

However, if McTominay is questioning his Neapolitan existence, he certainly isn't displaying it during matches as his strike against Inter complemented his double against PSV whilst he regained his goalscoring form with the Serie A titleholders.

The ex-Manchester United midfielder confessed he was forced to put in additional effort to ensure the ball nestled in the net. Speaking to DAZN Italia, he revealed: "We knew we had to give a reaction after the Champions League and I thought we did that really well.

"Inter are a top team with great players, but it was a top response. I lost it in the lights, so the pass took me by surprise, the lights are so bright I couldn't see it. Then I just thought to shoot. Leo is a top player, he put in some great passes this year, now we need to find that consistency so we can continue to push."
