legend has reportedly lost hundreds of thousands of pounds on an investment project gone bad. The 44-year-old has amassed a huge personal fortune from an 18-year professional playing career and a lucrative switch to management in 2018.
Gerrard was one of the highest-paid players in the while at the peak of his powers with boyhood club Liverpool. And he was believed to be on a deal worth during his time as manager of side Al-Ettifaq. The former international left that post by mutual consent in January, and although his reputation took a hit, he returned to the UK with cash to burn.
But not all of Gerrard's ventures have gone to plan. According to , he invested just over £371,000 into Angel Revive - a 'healthy water' company launched by one of his friends - in exchange for a 25% stake.
However, the business has now closed under a mountain of debt, including nearly £400,000 in unpaid rent. Gerrard is understood to have received £50,000 of his initial investment back, but that still leaves him with a £321,000 overall loss.
An Angel Revive document read: "The company has negative reserves and is dependent on continued financial support of directors and shareholders."
With an estimated net worth of , Gerrard is unlikely to be strapped for cash after his friend's unsuccessful business venture. But he may not want too many more instances of money heading out before he secures his next big football payday.
Gerrard has been linked with a whole host of jobs since the curtain fell on his stint in the Saudi Pro League. He led Rangers to an undefeated Scottish Premiership season in 2020/21, which saw them finish a staggering 25 points clear of Glasgow rivals Celtic, and on 102 points in total.
He left Ibrox to take charge of Aston Villa, but his spell in the West Midlands lasted less than a year. Gerrard is believed to be on the to be the next Rangers manager along with Gary O'Neil, Rob Edwards and Russell Martin.
Barry Ferguson was placed in temporary charge of the Gers after Philippe Clement's sacking. And despite captain James Tavernier calling for Ferguson to get the job permanently, club chiefs could still make a longer-term appointment early in the summer.
