Prince Andrew has revealed his decision to no longer use his Duke of York title. The 65-year-old has released a statement sharing that he will relinquish his remaining royal titles and role with immediate effect.
While it is important to note that the titles remain extant and will simply not be used in public, the reputation of the title, which held a deeply special place in Queen Elizabeth II's heart, has been hugely affected by Prince Andrew's numerous scandals.
Unless he is officially stripped of the Dukedom, the title will be retained in private by Andrew until his death - but who will be next to take it on?
The Dukedom of York has traditionally been granted to the second son of the monarch. Therefore, if Prince William ascends the throne and the title is vacant, then Prince Louis could be granted it when he comes of age or if he chooses to marry.
The late Queen's grandfather, King George V, and her father, King George VI, were both former Dukes of York. Consequently, she was known as Princess Elizabeth of York until her father became King in 1936.
As a result, the late Queen had several sentimental connections to this title.

In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace on Friday evening, Andrew spoke of his decision not to use his titles publicly.
He said: "In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life."
He continued: "With His Majesty's agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me."
