Raipur: A late-night joyride turned fatal for two teenage friends in Bhilai, after their high-speed bike lost control and rammed into a parked pickup truck. The boys had set out to shoot Instagram reels late Friday night, riding on a single motorbike.
The accident took place near the Bhilai Power House and claimed the lives of Harsh Meshram (16) and Jai Bansod (17), while their third companion, Aditya Chauhan (16), sustained injuries.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, Harsh was riding the bike, with Aditya seated behind recording videos. While travelling from Bhilai towards Khursipar, they reportedly collided with another motorcycle, lost control, and crashed directly into a stationary pickup truck.
Aditya, who fell on top of his friends during the crash, escaped with neck injuries and was under treatment at a hospital in Supela.
.Jai, a resident of Gautam Nagar, had returned home from a wedding party that evening. He told his mother he was heading out again — just hours before tragedy struck.
Harsh's mother, Kashish Meshram, was inconsolable at the hospital. For hours, she sat outside calling out to her son, convinced he would return if she summoned him. "He's at the party, I'll call him and he'll come," she kept repeating. Harsh, described by his family as a cheerful boy, was particularly close to his mother. He is survived by an elder brother and a younger sister.
It wasn't the first time the trio had ventured out late at night to create social media content. Just a few days earlier, on April 16, they had roamed around various sectors of Bhilai Township filming videos for Instagram reels. Police have now retrieved footage from their phones, and Aditya confirmed they had visited Sectors 4 and 6 during their previous outing.
Supela police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether reckless driving or external factors were involved. Officers are also questioning Aditya about where the boys were heading and what exactly led to the accident. In a similar incident more than a fortnight ago, a young girl got beheaded when she was on a triple-ride on a two-wheeler and they were recording reels, leading to the vehicle losing balance and hitting a divider.
