Daredevil: Born Again' season finale hints at a Defenders reunion

The finale of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 has stirred up excitement among Marvel fans, as it hinted at a possible crossover with the Defenders.

As reported by Inverse, the final episode didn’t just bring action and surprises — it might’ve also laid the groundwork for some beloved characters to return to the screen.

The show, which revived the Daredevil story that began on Netflix, wrapped up its first season with a powerful conclusion. This time, the series focused more on political themes, which isn't very common in Marvel shows. With just nine episodes, it managed to give fans a deeper and more serious take on the superhero world. The finale made it clear: Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio), is more dangerous than ever.

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), who leads a double life as the masked vigilante Daredevil, finds himself in serious trouble. Fisk takes control of New York City using fear and corrupt police forces. He even declares a state of emergency to target vigilantes, making the city a dangerous place for anyone standing up against him.

In the finale, Matt joins forces with Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher (Jon Bernthal), and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). Together, they uncover a major plan involving Fisk's efforts to rebuild the Red Hook Port — a place he once used for money laundering. Now, Fisk and his wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) want to turn the port into a free trade zone, where they can avoid taxes and laws. This could make them even more powerful.

As Fisk takes extreme actions, like murdering the police commissioner and locking up his enemies — including the Punisher and another vigilante called the Swordsman — Matt realizes he can’t win this fight alone. He mentions needing an "army," which might be a hint that the Defenders could reunite in Season 2.

Fans of the old Netflix Marvel shows will remember the Defenders team, which included Daredevil, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). With Daredevil already back in the MCU, there's hope that the others might return too.

The story could be inspired by Marvel Comics’ Devil’s Reign or the Mayor Fisk storyline, where heroes like Echo, Spider-Man, Moon Knight, and others joined Daredevil to take Fisk down. Whether Season 2 brings back the full Defenders team or not, it’s clear that bigger battles are coming.
According to the report by Inverse, Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is expected to be released in 2026 — and fans are already eager to see who might join Daredevil in his fight.
