I learnt on my own to do swordplay for a scene: Sheel Verma

Actor Sheel Verma, who plays Jaiveer in the television drama Badi Haveli Ki Chhoti Thakurain, recently opened up about a unique challenge he faced on set: wielding a real sword for an intense scene.

While Sheel has previously appeared in TV shows like Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey, Le Chalu Apan Duari, Shree Ramayan Katha and Meri Maa Karma, this was the first time he had to perform a fencing sequence with a real weapon.

Talking about shooting for this scene, he says, “Recently, for an earlier episode, I had to hold the sword for a scene. But this time, I had to express Jaiveer’s anger through swordplay. It wasn’t just about holding it—it needed practice, precision and expression.I learnt on my own to do swordplay for a scene.”


To prepare for the scene, the actor went the extra mile. “I was watching a lot of videos, reading articles, and trying to understand the techniques. The sword was quite heavy to hold, so it wasn’t easy at first. But I’m happy I could do it convincingly,” he says.

Reflecting on the experience, Sheel adds, “This is why I love my profession. Being an actor allows you to explore so many new things. We get to learn about different activities that we might otherwise miss out on in daily life. It’s fun and fulfilling.”
