CT caught up with actress Sandipta Sen to chat about her Poila Boishakh plans and get a glimpse into her creative world behind the screen. Alongside acting, she also has a deep passion for interior design and draws inspiration from both contemporary styles and vintage aesthetics. Her home is a reflection of this blend, featuring heirloom pieces passed down through generations. For Sandipta, creating beautiful spaces is as fulfilling as creating characters. “Designing is not just a creative outlet; it’s a passion,” she said, adding that she has already designed three of her homes. Despite her busy schedule, she always finds time to nurture this love for design. This Naboborsho, she unveils her creative side through a Naboborsho-themed art activity.

‘Naboborsho is all about spending time with family’

For Sandipta, the essence of Poila Boishakh lies in the warmth of being surrounded by loved ones. “Poila Boishakh is a day I truly cherish, just being with my family and enjoying some quality time together makes it all worth it. This year, I have an event in the evening, but I’m also looking forward to spending some quiet moments with my husband,” said Sandipta.

From paturi to pulao

Speaking about her foodie plans, Sandipta confessed her love for traditioal dishes. She said, “I absolutely love pulao with mutton curry or plain rice with chingri macher malai curry, and bhetki macher paturi. These are some of my all-time favorite dishes for Poila Boishakh.”

Poila Boishakh back then

For Sandipta, some of the fondest Poila Boishakh memories are dusted with the golden glow of childhood—especially one unforgettable rooftop revelry. “One of my most cherished Poila Boishakh memories goes back to my childhood, in our Bhawanipur house. I remember one particular year when all the members of our building came together on the terrace to celebrate. Everyone performed something, mostly Tagore songs. I remember performing to the beautiful Rabindra Sangeet that ushers in new beginnings – Esho He Boishakh, Esho Esho. The evening had such a warm, festive feel to it. I loved the way it was celebrated. That day has stayed with me ever since,” said Sandipta.
