Glimpses of Santiniketan, a solo exhibition of Kiran Dixit Thacker’s sculptures and paintings, was held at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture, drawing significant attention for its stunning display of artistic mastery. The exhibition, inaugurated by Sri Jayanta Sengupta, Director of the Alipore Museum, and attended by special guests such as art critic Mrinal Ghosh and Professor Pankaj Panwar from Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan, showcased over 60 of Thacker’s works, including sculptures in metal, clay, and stone.
The event was a resounding success, with attendees captivated by the scale, intricacy, and emotional depth of the pieces. Thacker, at 78, continues to defy expectations with her dedication to her craft, despite frail health. Known as the only living female disciple of Ramkinkar Baij, Thacker’s works reflect a deep connection to her surroundings, particularly the landscapes of Santiniketan, which have inspired many of her pieces.
Her sculptures, featuring life-sized figures of animals, people, and elements of nature, resonate with the simplicity and beauty of the environment that surrounds her. Thacker’s lifelong commitment to art, which began in Varanasi and continued through her time teaching in England, shines through in every piece
