NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma added another feather to his already illustrious cap on Sunday as he etched his name in IPL history, becoming the first Indian cricketer to win 20 Player of the Match awards in the tournament.

The milestone came during Mumbai Indians ’ emphatic nine-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium.

Having struggled for form in this season, Rohit returned to peak mode with a sublime unbeaten 76 off 44 balls.

Entering as an impact substitute, the MI skipper showcased his vintage touch with elegant flicks, effortless pulls, and calculated aggression.

His innings not only ended his personal dry spell but also laid the perfect foundation for a clinical chase of CSK's 177-run target.

Rohit was well supported by Suryakumar Yadav, who blazed away with 68 not out off just 30 balls.

Together, the duo stitched a match-winning 114-run partnership as Mumbai sealed the win with more than four overs to spare.

But it was Rohit’s milestone that stole the spotlight. With this Player of the Match award, he surpassed several Indian legends to claim the top spot in the list. His 20th such award is a testament to his longevity, consistency, and impact in the IPL over the years.

Earlier in the match, Chennai Super Kings put up a competitive 176/5, powered by half-centuries from Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja.

Young Ayush Mhatre also impressed with a 15-ball 32 on debut. However, MI’s bowling, especially Jasprit Bumrah’s spell of 2/25, ensured CSK didn’t run away with the game.

As MI celebrate their third straight win and rise on the points table, Rohit Sharma’s record-breaking feat serves as a reminder of his enduring greatness in the shortest format.
