GUWAHATI: Minutes after being released on bail in a case registered against him for terming the Pahalgam terror attack a govt conspiracy and dismissing Pakistan’s role in it, Assam MLA Aminul Islam was detained again under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980.
The All India United Democratic Front ( AIUDF ) MLA from Dhing in Nagaon district was arrested on April 24 on sedition charges a day after he alleged that both the Pahalgam massacre and the Pulwama blast of 2019, which left 40 CRPF personnel dead, were a “conspiracy by the central govt” to incite communal discord .
Islam was released from Nagaon central jail on Wednesday, but was immediately placed under preventive detention under section 3(2) of NSA on the same charges, and was lodged at the same prison, police said. They refused to share further details, saying the case was under investigation. AIUDF has distanced itself from the legislator’s comments.
