The Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant rarely talks about his family and is all about basketball. However, the NBA star shared a personal story about his brother, Tony, and Tony’s seven-year-old son.
Durant revealed that he shares a special bond with his nephew, even though the young boy surprisingly doesn’t consider him his favorite player. The moment has given a glimpse into Kevin Durant’s softer family side away from basketball and fame.
Kevin Durant reveals sweet bond with nephew who prefers Devin Booker over himKevin Durant recently opened up about his family and his nephew's admiration for the sport in an interview with Bobbi Althoff. During the conversation, Durant spoke fondly about his brother Tony, who stands 6’7″ and once played college basketball. He also mentioned how close he is to Tony’s son.
“He loves me, and I love him,” Durant told Bobbi Althoff. The Houston Rockets star revealed that he always answers his nephew’s FaceTime calls and enjoys talking to him about random things. The little boy likes basketball, but apparently, he prefers another NBA star over his uncle, who is currently one of the biggest names in the NBA.
“Somehow, I’m not his favorite player,” Durant admitted. “Book (Devin Booker) is good, too, but maybe he watched me when I played for the Suns (Phoenix Suns) and seen Book. And he just, like, took me for granted just a little bit ’cause I’m always there… It’s all good. He’s gonna figure it out at some point in his life.”
This funny confession showed the lighter side of the Rockets star, who usually remains silent about his personal life.
Kevin Durant reflects on his one regret in life despite his illustrious NBA careerKevin Durant once explored acting when he starred in the 2012 film Thunderstruck, a lighthearted basketball comedy made during his Oklahoma City Thunder days. Though it wasn’t a hit, the project gave him a chance to step outside basketball.
Looking back, Durant, in the same interaction, admitted the movie was “so cheesy that you like it” but confessed he would have chosen something “way cooler” if given another chance. He even joked that he’d love to play a tougher role, like a gangster or kingpin, just for the thrill of it.
While legends like Michael Jordan and LeBron James found success playing themselves, Durant’s comments show he’s open to taking on something bolder, if Hollywood ever comes calling again.
