NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the nation for the first time since the launch of Operation Sindoor , India’s powerful counterterror strike against Pakistan-backed terror networks . In a strong and emotive speech, the Prime Minister praised the bravery of the armed forces and reaffirmed India's unwavering resolve in the face of terror.
"On May 7, the whole world saw our resolve turn into action," PM Modi said, referencing the precision strikes launched by Indian forces in response to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which left 26 civilians dead, mostly tourists.
"We have seen the country’s capabilities and self-restraint in the past few days. I salute our armed forces, intelligence agencies, and our scientists on behalf of every citizen," he said.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the troops who executed the mission, saying, "Our brave soldiers have shown unparalleled valour in achieving the objectives of Operation Sindoor. I dedicate their courage and heroism to them, and to every mother, sister, and daughter of the nation."
Condemning the Pahalgam attack , PM Modi said, "The barbarism shown by terrorists on April 22 shocked the entire country. Innocent tourists were killed in front of their families after being asked their religion. It was heinous and cruel. Personally, this was a huge loss for me."
“When 'Nation First' is our resolve, steely decisions are taken,” the Prime Minister said.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, involved coordinated strikes on nine high-value terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Key targets included Lashkar-e-Taiba ’s Muridke base and Jaish-e-Mohammad ’s headquarters in Bahawalpur. In retaliation, Pakistan launched drones and missiles over subsequent nights, all of which were intercepted and neutralised by India's air defence systems.
