Utah Governor Spencer Cox on Friday announced that a 22-year-old man from Utah had been arrested in connection with the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk .
Cox revealed that the suspect has been identified as Tyler Robinson .

“We got him. On the evening of September 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident,” Cox said at the press conference.

Governor Spencer Cox said that authorities reviewed CCTV from Utah Valley University and spotted the suspect arriving Wednesday morning in a Dodge Challenger.
He wore a maroon T-shirt, light shorts, a black hat with a white logo, and light shoes. His clothing matched what investigators observed during his arrest, Cox added.
An hour before the press conference US President Donald Trump had announced that a suspect had been detained in connection with the case.
"Essentially somebody that was very close to him turned him in," Trump had told Fox news. "That happens when you have some of those good shots," he added, referring to clearer images released Thursday by the FBI .

Trump said the suspect’s father also cooperated with authorities, and credited a person “of faith” for helping bring the case forward. “With a high degree of certainty, we have him,” he said.
Kirk was shot Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University in what officials describe as a targeted attack. He later died in hospital. A high-powered rifle was found near the scene.
Trump had earlier praised Kirk, calling him “a good person” and announced plans to award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
