How to transfer GTA Online characters between platforms?

Got a new console or switching platforms but don’t want to lose your GTA Online progress? But wait—you don’t want to start from scratch after grinding for hours on your PS4 or Xbox One, right? No worries, Rockstar’s got you covered with character migration. But before you dive in, there are a few key things you need to know.


How to Transfer Your GTA Online Character to Another PlatformThe process is simple, but you need to check a few things first:

• Your old and new platform must be linked to the same Rockstar Social Club account

• You need GTA 5 or GTA Online installed on your new device

If you haven’t done that yet, handle it first.

Here’s how to migrate your profile:

Launch GTA Online on your new platform – Go to the Pause Menu and then to the Online Tab. There, you’ll find a “Migrate Profile” tab. Click on it to start the process.

Pick which profile to transfer – You’ll see all the profiles you may have from your older platforms. Pick the profile you want to transfer and choose wisely because you cannot merge accounts.

Confirm the migration – Let the game do its thing. Just don’t close the game or shut off your console while it’s transferring.

Select a character or create a new one – Either continue with your transferred character or create a new one using the Career Builder. But if you already have two characters, then you’ll need to delete one to make space.

Important Warnings Before You Hit Transfer

• Don’t Close the Game: DO NOT close the game or shut down your console while migrating. Doing so could corrupt your save.
• Money Transfers: Any GTA$ earned through gameplay moves with you. However, GTA$ bought with real money only transfers if you're staying within the same console family (e.g., PlayStation to PlayStation or Xbox to Xbox).
• No Cross-Platform Play or Progress: Transferring doesn’t mean you can play across different platforms.
• Last-gen progress won’t sync: After migration, your old-gen account still exists, but progress won’t carry over.

What If You Skip Migration?If you choose not to migrate when first logging in on your new platform, you’ll have to start from scratch. And if you change your mind later, migrating will overwrite any new progress you made. No refunds, no do-overs.
